cuticula-Definition and Meaning

The term “cuticula” is derived from Latin and refers to the cuticle in English. The cuticle is a layer of protective skin or tissue that covers the surface of plants, particularly the outer layer of leaves, and can also refer to the thin layer of skin at the base of fingernails and toenails in humans. In plants, the cuticle helps to prevent water loss and protect against environmental factors. In humans, it serves a protective function for the nail matrix.
