cestode-Definition and Meaning

A “cestode” is a type of parasitic flatworm belonging to the class Cestoda, commonly known as tapeworms. These organisms are characterized by their flat, ribbon-like bodies and typically inhabit the intestines of vertebrates. Cestodes lack a digestive system and absorb nutrients directly through their skin from the host’s intestines. They have a complex life cycle often involving multiple hosts, including intermediate hosts where larval stages develop. Cestodes are of significant medical importance due to their potential to cause infections in humans and other animals.
