The term “carcinoid” refers to a type of slow-growing tumor that arises from neuroendocrine cells, typically found in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, or appendix. Carcinoid tumors can produce hormones that may lead to various symptoms, including flushing, diarrhea, and wheezing, often associated with a syndrome known as carcinoid syndrome. While these tumors are generally considered less aggressive than other forms of cancer, they can metastasize to other parts of the body.
