The term ‘arhat’ refers to a person who has achieved enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of birth and death (samsara) in certain branches of Buddhism, particularly in Theravada Buddhism. An arhat is considered to have attained ultimate wisdom and is free from the impurities of desire, aversion, and ignorance, often seen as a model of spiritual attainment.
